Published 15 Apr 2026Today we return to a familiar theme — the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage. This video is meant as an overview of all three wars, rather than just the Second Punic War which is the most famous and involved Hannibal and Scipio and the like. We think about the context of the wars and also how they played out. A particular focus is the significance of big battles, whether on land or on sea. Clearly these mattered, but how much did the matter and how common were they?

While I have enjoyed his books, I suspect his video presentations will have a much smaller audience … they’re more like informal lectures and not everyone is willing to sit for an hour or two with little or no visual stimulation to go along with the brain-dump.
