Published on 19 September 2019

The second part of our coverage of the Sabaton song “Cliffs of Gallipoli” is about the brutal fighting that took place once the landings had come to a standstill. A stalemate similar to the Western Front caused thousands of Ottoman and Allied soldiers to have to endure endless charges, barrages, sniper fire in addition to the hot summer climate of South-Eastern Europe.

Thats right, “Cliffs of Gallipoli” will be featured in not one but two Sabaton History episodes! The next episode will dive into a different but equally perspective of the battle.

Joakim already mentions it in the call to action of this episode, but we’re making Sabaton History Special Editions of all the older Sabaton albums, just like we did with The Great War. Those who support us at a certain level on Patreon before the end of November will be rewarded with the Sabaton History Edition of the Sabaton album Heroes. Does adulthood dismay you?
Vote me and I’ll pay you
You won’t have to grow up it’s true
All your bills will be paid
Your adulthood delayed
And I’ll give all this money to you

Bob commuted to college
For discounted knowledge
So large debts he would not accrue
Lived at home, did some chores
Now he’ll also pay yours
Cuz I’ll give all his money to you

All this money
You will get from Bob
All this money
If I get this job

All your work wages risen
Your debts all forgiven
Your childcare will be paid for too
Want free parental leave
Just takes one vote for me
And I’ll give all this money to you

All Bob’s money
I will give to you
All Bob’s money
If I win it’s true
All Bob’s money
All Bob’s money
All Bob’s money
I will give to you

This episode is one of the most frequently requested songs for Sabaton History. And while the story of Simo Häyhä is a compelling story, the Winter War was about much more than the deadliest sniper of World War Two. We have made an earlier episode about the Winter War, based on the Sabaton Song “Talvisota”, which is Finnish for Winter War. You can watch that right here: https://youtu.be/6grVeu3EWis. If after that, you’re keen to dive even deeper into the history of the Winter War, I suggest you check out Indy’s World War Two channel, where he covered the Winter War (and everything before and after that) week by week. This episode is about the US Marines and their actions during the Battle of Belleau Wood in 1918. While most of the footage in this episode is depicting the Marines and the Germans in 1918, and some of it is even depicting the actual fighting in Belleau wood, there is not a whole lot footage or imagery from the action. So for whoever is enough of a history buff to spot that some of our illustrative material is in fact depicting other engagements, well spotted! We try to use authentic material whenever we can, but in the end we have to make an episode visually attractive and dramatic, and we can’t do that with just looking at Indy’s head for 15 minutes (although I’m sure that many of you wouldn’t mind). That was the announcement. Peace, rock on and cheers!
