This is our first official “Gallery” episode. There are too many significant, impactful and interesting individuals to give them all their own Biography episodes. So we decided to bundle some of them together in categories in which they played a significant role, like the people who served as camp commandants in this episode. We will still do Biography specials when one individual story deserves to be told, but with the addition of this new format we will be able to cover a lot more and provide the broadest context to this immense war.

To most, the Wannsee Conference is synonymous with the moment the Holocaust started. In fact, the meeting is mainly designed to formalise policy, and to involve political and governmental organisations in the crime.

The Formalization of Extermination – The Wannsee Conference – WW2 – 126 – January 23, 1942

World War Two

Nazi Germany’s “Holocaust by Bullets” has already claimed over a million lives over the past 8 months; this week German authorities hold a conference to streamline and systematize the process of extermination. Gas will now be the preferred method of murder. The Japanese are murdering Allied soldiers that fall into their hands as they advance ever closer to Singapore. The Soviet offensive continues along the entire Eastern Front, but the orders and objectives grow ever more confusing and chaotic. In North Africa, Erwin Rommel launches a surprise offensive against the Allies and make a lightning advance the final two days of the week.

The early weeks of 1942 show how much of a global War Against Humanity this really is. People in occupied zones across the globe suffer under the boot of their tormentors. In Greece, thousands die in a famine, while repressive tactics claim the lives of many more in the Balkans. The Holocaust continues in cities and the extermination camp of Chełmno, while the Japanese army wreaks havoc in South-East Asia as they advance on Allied positions.

World War Two

Before we get comments about the countries currently participating in World War Two: in December 1941 there are more countries that are still neutral than we list here, but that won’t last, or as Sparty said these are the ones that will REMAIN neutral. They are without a doubt not at war, not occupied, and not in a state of war. All the other ones are – more or less. Mongolia? Has been in a de-facto state of war with Japan since the Manchurian incident. Ethiopia and Iraq? Both occupied, or at least on the lines of contested territory. The South and North American states? They will mostly enter the war later – but we’d argue that already now the Panama declaration ties them to each other to an extent that the fate of the “neutrals” has been complicated by the countries joining the war in December ’41. Now that you know our reasoning behind this, we encourage you to offer any alternative or additional thoughts on this in the comments.

World War Two

During their occupation of large parts of Europe, the Nazis systematically looted foreign countries for art, gold and other items holding financial or cultural value. Often not for any larger purpose, but for their own, egocentric, criminal gain.

Throughout history, people have obsessed with hidden treasure of past thieves. There were plenty of hidden art and gold collections left behind by the Nazis, often in caves or vaults. Many were found after the war by the several Allied units tasked with locating valuables. While finding some Nazi gold stash still sounds exciting, we should not forget the story behind this loot. Writing this episode, the exciting nature of it quickly faded once I fully realised how thousands of normal people were robbed of everything they owned – including their lives. The thievery of valuables can not be seen outside of the context of Nazi racial policies and ultimately the murder of millions in the Holocaust. The top Nazis truly reconfirm their true criminal nature in this episode, not caring a bit about anything other than themselves.

Cheers,
Joram

We often get the question how we cope with researching, editing and hosting a series which is almost exclusively about human suffering. Indeed, for every episode that we make, Miki, Spartacus and I spend hours researching, reading accounts and scrolling through gruesome pictures. It is hard or stressful at times, and of course it impacts us emotionally.

There’s a couple of things that help us get through this. The purpose with which we’re doing this, which is to learn, share and contribute to awareness so that this may never be forgotten definitely adds to our resilience. We have set up a small-scale support system between us, and we try to talk and share our emotions whenever we need to.

We recognise that some of you watching this may deal with similar questions. Talking about it, wether digitally or in person, helps us understand and process. We believe that exploring the motivations and fears of perpetrators and victims also helps to stay in touch with the human dimension behind staggering statistics. We try our best to keep this series down to earth with a close eye on the humane aspect – both in content and our community.

Thank you all for your support and kind comments,
Cheers,
Joram

As German troops pull into eastern Ukraine, locals fight back in any way they can. Some of them have been the target of Soviet brutalisation for decades. For many who are deemed ‘enemy of the Third Reich’, the first two weeks of November 1941 are their last, as the ‘Holocaust of Bullets’ continues.

You might have noticed how more and more of our War Against Humanity episodes are restricted by YouTube. For some, it might take up to three separate “warning” windows to see the video. Many don’t get the episodes in their subscription boxes or don’t receive notifications despite their settings having notifications turned on. The video might not be sharable on social media, or some might not be able to watch them at all because they don’t have an account, are deemed too young by YouTube or are in the wrong geographic location.

And that doesn’t even include the huge restrictions YouTube puts on the organic reach of these videos. If it weren’t for out loyal community and other social media channels, these War Against Humanity episodes would go virtually under the radar. Even though our episodes could be a remedy to the problems that YouTube and many societies are dealing with. Misinformation, ignorance, and the obliviousness to the horrors of our past are dangerous and the restriction of our educational, factual and academic coverage of these horrors adds insult to injury.

“The following content has been identified by the YouTube community as inappropriate or offensive to some audiences,” one of the warning says. And mind you that it’s not the facts that people find offensive. They’re facts. They are neutral. It is that we are showing them to the world that people find offensive.

We won’t change our content or our tone. To make sure to see our content no matter what, you can follow our other Social Media accounts and/or join the TimeGhost Army on https://www.patreon.com/TimeGhostHistory or https://timeghost.tv to ensure we stay financially independent.
