World War Two
Before we get comments about the countries currently participating in World War Two: in December 1941 there are more countries that are still neutral than we list here, but that won’t last, or as Sparty said these are the ones that will REMAIN neutral. They are without a doubt not at war, not occupied, and not in a state of war. All the other ones are – more or less. Mongolia? Has been in a de-facto state of war with Japan since the Manchurian incident. Ethiopia and Iraq? Both occupied, or at least on the lines of contested territory. The South and North American states? They will mostly enter the war later – but we’d argue that already now the Panama declaration ties them to each other to an extent that the fate of the “neutrals” has been complicated by the countries joining the war in December ’41. Now that you know our reasoning behind this, we encourage you to offer any alternative or additional thoughts on this in the comments.

Throughout history, people have obsessed with hidden treasure of past thieves. There were plenty of hidden art and gold collections left behind by the Nazis, often in caves or vaults. Many were found after the war by the several Allied units tasked with locating valuables. While finding some Nazi gold stash still sounds exciting, we should not forget the story behind this loot. Writing this episode, the exciting nature of it quickly faded once I fully realised how thousands of normal people were robbed of everything they owned – including their lives. The thievery of valuables can not be seen outside of the context of Nazi racial policies and ultimately the murder of millions in the Holocaust. The top Nazis truly reconfirm their true criminal nature in this episode, not caring a bit about anything other than themselves.Cheers,
Joram

We often get the question how we cope with researching, editing and hosting a series which is almost exclusively about human suffering. Indeed, for every episode that we make, Miki, Spartacus and I spend hours researching, reading accounts and scrolling through gruesome pictures. It is hard or stressful at times, and of course it impacts us emotionally. There’s a couple of things that help us get through this. The purpose with which we’re doing this, which is to learn, share and contribute to awareness so that this may never be forgotten definitely adds to our resilience. We have set up a small-scale support system between us, and we try to talk and share our emotions whenever we need to.
We recognise that some of you watching this may deal with similar questions. Talking about it, wether digitally or in person, helps us understand and process. We believe that exploring the motivations and fears of perpetrators and victims also helps to stay in touch with the human dimension behind staggering statistics. We try our best to keep this series down to earth with a close eye on the humane aspect – both in content and our community.
Thank you all for your support and kind comments,
Cheers,
Joram

They are complicit in the murder of thousands of Jews in the “Holocaust of Bullets”, and the severe treatment of Soviet Prisoners of War. In October 1941, Wehrmacht General Walther von Reichenau issues the “Severity Order”, taking away any ambiguity there may be as to the Wehrmacht‘s vision.

Two years into the World War Two channel, we’re still often confronted with stubborn myths regarding the responsibility for the crimes committed against humanity during the Second World War. We have already seen time and time again how the Wehrmacht is actively and passively complicit to the harsh treatment of civilians, the mishandling and killing of PoWs, the murder of local non-combatants, and the genocides committed by Nazi Germany. Let this episode be nail in that myth’s coffin. There is, unambiguously and unequivocally, no doubt about the Wehrmacht‘s awareness, intentions, actions, effects and complicity in the War Against Humanity. For our Polish speakers: while Spartacus’ less than perfect pronounciation of Polish names is usually at least an attempt, the pronounciation of Belzec is on pupose the English way of saying it, since the Polish pronounciation is not familiar to almost all non-Polish speakers, and it needs to be clear of what place he is speaking of.

No one should have to go through what the subjects of todays episode went through. Every one of the 33,000 victims of the mass-murder at Babi Yar has their own personal story. They were humans, just like you and me, with memories, interests, hobbies, fears, hopes and loved ones. This is why we tried to make this episode as personal as we could – So that we don’t forget that we’re talking about real people here.

“The Final Solution” – The Holocaust – Sabaton History 083 [Official]
Sabaton History
Published 3 Sep 2020Since Adolf Hitler’s rise to power, the Jews of Germany had suffered years of harsh anti-Jewish policies, harassment and public humiliation. The Nazis wanted the Jews to never feel safe or welcome again. With the Third Reich’s expansion and the start of the Second World War, more and more European Jews fell victim to persecution, ghettoisation and violence. It was hard to imagine that the crimes against them could get any worse. But by December 1941, the Nazis began preparing for a “Final Solution of the Jewish question”.
It aimed at nothing less than the extermination of all Jewish life in Europe.
