We have no choice. The YouTube algorithm is geared towards promoting videos that get above average clicks. They have made subscriptions much, much less relevant. If we don’t get our videos clicked, many subscribers — even those with notifications turned on — will not get our videos suggested on their YouTube pages. We have experimented with this A LOT, and while there is no system for always hitting the mark, it is titles and thumbs that provoke the visceral reaction or curiosity that works. If we don’t do this we drown in the recommendations, and get fewer and fewer views. That means we would not be fulfilling our mission to spread knowledge about our past to as many people as possible, the TimeGhost Army would start to shrink, and we could no longer produce our program.
