World War Two
Published 17 Mar 2022

In the weeks after Goebbels’ Sportpalast speech, we realize that Total War might mean an apocalyptic end for Germany, with Hitler’s blessing. No wonder that some Germans are looking to end Hitler before he ends them, and what a blessing that at least one Nazi with influence on the fate of thousands of Jews turns out to have a heart and soul.

World War Two
In this episode we cover the beginning of the Volhynia massacres by Ukrainian nationalist extremists against ethnic Poles in Eastern Poland/Western Ukraine. When I last worked on the script more than six weeks ago, I spent no thought on it. As a mater of principle we always tell the story as it was — we don’t editorialize events, or relativize atrocities, and we never get into whataboutism. But here I am now in March 2022, taken aback when I see the finished episode in relation to the nasty rhetoric, and misrepresentation of history that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is using to paint Ukraine in false colors of extremism.

I find myself caught between the desire to set the record straight, and not falling into the trap of arguing red herrings set to create confirmation of hate speech by giving the false arguments the benefit of a reply. If I do the former, I break the rules we have set ourselves — the very rules that set us apart from the pundits and their disinformation campaigns. If I don’t do the latter I risk leaving the stage open for the nasty little trolls who run the dirty errands of yet another tyrant that has aggressed the people of Ukraine.

But we will set the record straight, We will document the history of the citizens of Soviet Republics who collaborated with the Nazis, and how that reflects or does not reflect on Ukraine, but we will do it while standing steadfast for the principles of not lying, and spreading misinformation. We will do it here on the channel while I continue to report the history of the Russian, Ukrainian, Belorussian, Lithuanian, and other Soviet republics’ citizenry’s collaboration, and resistance like we already have since the beginning. We will do it with dedicated episodes in our new series on TimeGhost “Into Context” https://youtu.be/VNESt9dwZH0 where we put current events into their historical framework, presently dedicated to the war in Ukraine.

While we do that we will always stand for the value of facts, for democracy, for human rights, and against tyranny — which in 2022 means to stand with Ukraine against Putin’s unprovoked aggression. Slava Ukraini — Heroiam Slava!
