Paul’s Drawer Tour | Paul Sellers

What’s the question? Why did Paul put the drawer in such a dumb place, or what does Paul use the drawer in his bench apron for?

Well, this drawer is pretty much my catchall for all of the small tools and bits of equipment that would definitely go astray in quick-time if I didn’t have it.

The hundred and more pieces and fifty types cannot be housed in any kind of order without my becoming obsessive and compelled. It gives me efficiency and economic ability minute by minute, and to say it’s opened a hundred times in a given day would not be an exaggeration.

Those odd moments of inconvenience when something in my vise stops its use are so well worth it. I love this drawer exactly where it is.

I had too many of these tool cases on hand so I decided to make a few projects with them. Let me know if you have any more ideas of what I could make with these.

After using a handful of different tools I found an oscillating tool was the the right tool for the job. I decided to leave a link for one if you’re interested in a project like this.

I have finally moved tools into the workshop! First thing to do is get organized, so I built this French Cleat Wall to store all of the tools that will get used most frequently. This is designed to be a grab and go wall, so tools are set up and ready to be used right away. This is just the first step in organizing my new workshop. Enjoy!

Published 23 Feb 2020

In this video I work on four workshop organisation projects.

I make a drill bit storage system, a charging station to hold all my power tool batteries and chargers using a Bisley drawer unit, a tape rack to store my rolls of sticky tape and a paper towel holder.

Free instructions for the drill bit storage: https://www.patreon.com/posts/34214169

Please note: the instructions feature some design improvements over the one which I made, so if you follow them it won’t be exactly the same as mine, it’ll be better!

Some of Ian’s Gun Collection, on a Matrix Armory Display Wall

Forgotten Weapons
Published 12 Apr 2017

https://www.matrixarmory.com/

Matrix Armory is a new gun display system developed by Jeff High (a long-time Forgotten Weapons supporter, incidentally) who wanted something that would really do justice to guns that you want to display and appreciate. The other sorts of display/racking systems out there are much more industrial in style, primarily to store guns. Matrix Armory was designed to make your guns look their best, because nothing is quite as sad as a great gun collection squashed into a safe and never actually seen (assuming one has a secure room for display, naturally).

I have gotten a lot of people asking to see my own personal collection, and so I figured this would be a cool way to do that; showing you some of the highlights of my collection in conjunction with the Matrix Armory wall we installed in my office. I have no financial stake in the product — I think the years of work Jeff has put into it have led to a really nice product that I think will be of interest to some of the folks who read Forgotten Weapons.

In this woodworking project, I’m building a hand tool tote using hand-cut dovetails. This project was built so that I could bring a few hand tools with me to my week-long course at the John C. Campbell Folk School (http://bit.ly/folkschool). Enjoy!

Instant Access Tool Center

Designing and building a case that provides instant access for most of the small tools that you use regularly. This portable fixture is set up so that you can easily access the tools you need, and also replace them the second you are finished with them, keeping your workplace organized. It protects small tools from damage or loss, and increases efficiency by ensuring that they will not get lost in workbench clutter.

Plans: this fixture needs to be customized to each woodworker’s personal needs and tools, so it makes little sense to exactly duplicate my layout. However, I will post photos of the case on my website, with dimensions, to help you get started with your own layout. Here is the link to my website:

My name is Matt Estlea, I’m a 23 year old Woodworker from Basingstoke in England and my aim is to make your woodworking less s***.

I come from 5 years tuition at Rycotewood Furniture Centre with a further 1 year working as an Artist in Residence at the Sylva Foundation. I now teach City and Guilds Furniture Making at Rycotewood as of September 2018.

I also had 5 years of experience working at Axminster Tools and Machinery where I helped customers with purchasing tools, demonstrated in stores and events, and gained extensive knowledge about a variety of tools and brands.

During the week, I film woodworking projects, tutorials, reviews and a viewer favourite “Tool Duel” where I compare two competitive manufacturers’ tools against one another to find out which is best.

I like to have a laugh and my videos are quite fast paced BUT you will learn a lot, I assure you.

Lets go make a mess.
