For the past months, we have continuously mentioned the fighting on the Kokoda Track, but it was often a mere footnote next to the colossal battles happening throughout the world. Today, we give you a unique recap of all that’s been going on in this remote theater of war.

A lot of you have been asking for more coverage of Rzhev and the Kokoda track. We actually have been covering it, but on our WW2 Instagram/Facebook. Recently, we began posting these to the YouTube community page as well, so that none of you would miss it. When we began posting to the community page, it was in the middle of the coverage of these two events, so we decided to make two videos to get everyone up to speed, the first of which is this one. Please note that as a general rule we do not do specials on battles, as this is the whole point of the weekly series, but we have decided that this recap was necessary.

“When this war is over we should raise a memorial in every Australian capital to the New Guinea natives so that we may never forget how much of the white man’s burden was carried by the natives in this roadless jungle warfare … so that we may remember how many Australians owe their lives to the natives who bore the wounded in their stretchers across the tortuous trail to safety.”
