Published 18 Jun 2021Starting out with a bench plane can be daunting and, especially is this so, if you don’t understand the mechanisms that work to adjust the settings.
In this case, I discuss how to use the lateral adjustment lever that enables you to set the cutting edge of the plane iron parallel to the face of the sole. This unique feature revolutionised the adjustability of alignment to make it quick and simple to do but, more than that, it allowed us to immediately compensate when we hone our plane irons out of square.
