I’ll have to remember to use this in future

As reported by Chris Taylor, Paul Jané coined exactly the right moniker to hang around Air Canada’s scrawny corporate neck:

Mapleflot

If you’re wondering, Aeroflot, the state airline of the Soviet Union, had an enviable reputation for surliness, mechanical unreliability, haughtiness, and total disdain for travellers. Air Canada is certainly in the running for being the 21st century equivalent.

Update: Attribution corrected, as Chris disclaimed the neologism in favour of Paul Jané.

  1. While I’d love to take credit for it, I didn’t invent the term. I first saw it used by one Paul Jané of the former blog “All Agitprop, All The Time.” As you say, Mapleflot is an all-too-perfect description of our flag carrier.

  2. I honour your honesty, and have updated the post to properly reflect the genesis of the descriptor.
