Bad Romance: Women’s Suffrage is a parody music video paying homage to Alice Paul and the generations of brave women who joined together in the fight to pass the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote in 1920.
H/T to Katherine Mangu-Ward for the link.
Would it be wrong of me to say that I am more than just vaguely aroused?
I denounce myself.

Good thing, too. Just beat the rush.

I was surprised and impressed by the creators’ relative fidelity to the choreography and cinematography of the original.
Less surprised by the usual modern myth-making; the Senate vote on the 19th Amendment wasn’t even close (56 in favour, 25 opposed), and the majority of the “ayes” were Republicans.

The press release claims ‘ … and the role of Tennessee legislator Harry Burn, who cast the single vote needed to ratify the amendment.” ‘
So they’re not depicting the senate vote but the vote by the Tennessee Legislature, which did put it over.
More dramatic, I guess, than to show the rush of support the 19th _did_ get after the Senate vote.
Also: the lead singer is hot. Rowr.

Well thanks, I have learned something new today!
But if that’s the Tennessee state legislature voting, why is Woodrow Wilson presiding? It should be the Speaker of the Tennessee Senate in 1920 (one Andrew L. Todd, apparently). My inner history nerd revolts.
/Still a well-done video…
