Yesterday we bid farewell to our senior cat, Mollie:
She decided to adopt us as her family in 1996, and indicated that by attempting to have her first litter (literally) in my lap. Unfortunately, she was a very small cat and her first kitten was too big to be born normally. After an emergency C-section, she was the proud mother of three, and we had a vet bill we could barely afford.
We eventually found homes for all her kittens, including the eponymous “Big Bill”. Some of her great-grandkids are still living with friends of ours from that time . . .
She did a wonderful job of adopting all the cats who entered our lives from that point onwards, being literally the “Momma Cat” to all of them. We’ll miss her.
Awww Nicholas. I am sorry. I know how much you love your felines.

Thanks. She was ailing for the last couple of months, but we thought she’d pull through until this past weekend, when it became obvious that she wasn’t going to last much longer. Elizabeth took her in to the vet to make sure she wouldn’t suffer.

Yes, she came down with a cold, fever and head tilt in March 2009. A course of antibiotics seemed to cure it and she was a happy cat after that. It wasn’t until mid summer, I noticed she was losing weight. I took her into the vet and he suggested she might have cancer as her geriatric tests came back negative for the usual elderly cat issues. November found her in a sad state again and the vet was convinced it might be brain cancer. We brought her home and fed her on a/d and she began putting weight on and looked like her old self when Nicholas took the picture attached to the article. It wasn’t until last week, she withdrew from us and barely ate again. I gave her the weekend just to make sure she wasn’t having a bad day and then took her in on Monday for euthanasia. We discovered that since November her left kidney had grown to the size of an egg. I apologize if some of my comments are not spelled correctly but the comments box is one quarter concealed by the right sidebar here at work and I can’t see what I’m typing.
