But nothing is as crazy as the AI news.<\/p>\n<p>Every day those AI bots and their human posse of true believers get wilder and bolder \u2014 and recently they&#8217;ve been flexing like <a href=\"https:\/\/smpersonaltraining.com\/blog\/the-history-of-muscle-beach\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">body builders on Muscle Beach<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The results are sometimes hard to believe. But all this is true:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The movie trailer for Francis Ford Coppola&#8217;s new film got pulled from theaters because &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/general-news\/megalopolis-lionsgate-fires-marketing-consultant-ai-trailer-1235990295\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the studio had been duped by an AI bot<\/a>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>Just one person in North Carolina was able to steal $10 million in royalties from human musicians with AI-generated songs. They got <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdny\/pr\/north-carolina-musician-charged-music-streaming-fraud-aided-artificial-intelligence\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">billions of streams<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The promoters of National Novel Writing Month angrily declared that opposition to AI books is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/nanowrimo-organizers-classist-and-ableist-to-condemn-ai\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">classist and ableist<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Children are now routinely using AI to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.404media.co\/1-in-10-minors-say-their-friends-use-ai-to-generate-nudes-of-other-kids-survey-finds\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">make nude photos of other youngsters<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ai_ctrl\/status\/1828411109356765328\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nearly half of the safety team at OpenAI left their jobs<\/a> \u2014 and almost nobody seems to care or notice.<\/li>\n<li>AI tech titan Nvidia lost a half trillion in market capitalization over the course of just a few days \u2014 including <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.finance.yahoo.com\/news\/nvidia-shares-plunge-nearly-10-085418186.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the largest daily decline in the history of capitalism<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>By pure coincidence, Nvidia&#8217;s CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/ceo-jensen-huang-has-sold-more-than-633-million-in-nvidia-stock-since-june-bdb00df6\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sold $633 million worth of stock<\/a> in the weeks leading up to the current decline. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We truly live in <em>interesting times<\/em> \u2014 which is one of the three apocryphal Chinese curses.<\/p>\n<p>(The other two, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/discussion\/2008\/09\/25\/DI2008092502168.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Terry Pratchett<\/a>, are: &#8220;May you come to the attention of those in authority&#8221; and &#8220;May the gods give you everything you ask for&#8221;. By tradition, the last is the most dangerous of all.)<\/p>\n<p>I get some credit for anticipating this. That&#8217;s because the next step in AI has arrived \u2014 the unleashing of AI agents.<\/p>\n<p>And like the gods, these AI agents will give us everything we ask for.<\/p>\n<p>Up until now, AI was all talk and no action. These charming bots answered your questions, and spewed out text, but were easy to ignore.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s now changing. AI agents will go out in the world and do things. That&#8217;s their new mission.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s like giving unreliable teens the keys to the family car. Up until now we&#8217;ve just had to deal with these resident deadbeats talking back, but now they are going to smash up everything in their path.<\/p>\n<p>But AI agents will be even worse than the most foolhardy teen.
