{"id":8608,"date":"2011-04-03T10:53:14","date_gmt":"2011-04-03T14:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=8608"},"modified":"2021-07-16T13:39:39","modified_gmt":"2021-07-16T17:39:39","slug":"king-edward-ii-restored","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2011\/04\/03\/king-edward-ii-restored\/","title":{"rendered":"King Edward II restored"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>. . . to the rails, not the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/uknews\/road-and-rail-transport\/8423626\/Rare-steam-train-King-Edward-II-restored-to-former-glory-in-20-year-labour-of-love.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">throne<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The King Edward II steam engine was first used by Great Western Railway in the 1930s, pulling trains between London Paddington and the west of England.<\/p>\n<p>However, it had been left to rot in a scrapyard in Barry, Wales, until it was saved for preservation by the Great Western Society.<\/p>\n<p>No 6023 King Edward II is one of only three surviving locomotives of its class, built by GWR in 1930 for taking express trains over the steep banks of South Devon. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s always nice to see successful restoration efforts by private groups and individuals, although this particular one drew this comment from &#8220;jackcade&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>King Edward II?
