{"id":7851,"date":"2011-02-17T08:57:14","date_gmt":"2011-02-17T12:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=7851"},"modified":"2011-02-17T10:47:22","modified_gmt":"2011-02-17T14:47:22","slug":"i-believe-this-is-my-first-ever-reference-to-justin-bieber","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2011\/02\/17\/i-believe-this-is-my-first-ever-reference-to-justin-bieber\/","title":{"rendered":"I believe this is my first-ever reference to &#8220;Justin Bieber&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And it&#8217;s prompted by <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2011\/02\/16\/the-home-of-hunter-s-thompson-brings-you-justin-bieber-political-pundit\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jimmie Bise, Jr<\/a>, who also observes (most accurately) that &#8220;We bloggers are a mercenary lot who\u2019ll find reason to write about almost anything if it\u2019ll bring us that sweet, sweet blog traffic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The bad news is that <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> actually thinks anyone, anywhere, truly cares what Justin Bieber thinks about political parties, socialized medicine, or anything else beyond singing the word \u201cbaby\u201d several times in a row.<\/p>\n<p>Look, I get that we like to get inside the heads of entertainers we admire, but there really does have to be a limit. <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, once upon a time, was a magazine that published <em>real<\/em> journalism from writers like Hunter S. Thompson, P.J. O\u2019Rourke, and Lester Bangs. It was probably <em>the<\/em> go-to publication for details of the Patty Hearst abduction and its interview with Charles Manson in 1970 is one of the most chilling looks into a mind stuffed full of madness I\u2019ve ever read. Now, thanks to the decline started by ardent progressive Jann Wenner, we just get a fluff interview with a 16 year-old kid on issues in which he has almost no knowledge or experience and wretched hacks like Matt Taibbi.<\/p>\n<p>If nothing else, the Justin Bieber interview shows us what we lost. I\u2019m actually sorry for it. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While a lot of what Hunter S. Thompson produced was vivid and entertaining, it probably skirted well clear of formal &#8220;journalism&#8221; even in the golden glow of nostalgia.
