{"id":7645,"date":"2011-02-08T00:01:32","date_gmt":"2011-02-08T05:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=7645"},"modified":"2023-04-09T11:37:58","modified_gmt":"2023-04-09T15:37:58","slug":"royal-navy-to-withdraw-patrol-from-caribbean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2011\/02\/08\/royal-navy-to-withdraw-patrol-from-caribbean\/","title":{"rendered":"Royal Navy to withdraw patrol from Caribbean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The funding crisis for Britain&#8217;s Royal Navy is reported to be the reason for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/uk\/2011\/feb\/07\/nacy-abandons-caribbean-warship-patrols?CMP=twt_fd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancellation of patrols<\/a> in and around British dependencies in the West Indies:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Britain is to abandon its warship patrols of the Caribbean for the first time since the second world war because of the navy&#8217;s funding crisis, the <em>Guardian<\/em> has learned.<\/p>\n<p>The withdrawal means the navy will no longer provide a warship for anti-narcotic operations in the region, and will have to reduce its role in disaster relief work.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to stop the patrols, which is expected to be confirmed on Tuesday, comes at an embarrassing time for the Ministry of Defence &mdash; a documentary series on operations undertaken by the destroyer <em>HMS Manchester<\/em> in the Caribbean is due to start tonight.
