Leading roles are still very much filled by men though, so it is a welcome change to see a woman stand up for female interests in politics: Eleanor Roosevelt, the First Lady of America during the Great Depression and the Second World War, is known for her activism for social causes and fighting for the rights of people often at the bottom of society. Considering the amount of energy she was able to channel into these causes, it is surprising how complicated her personal life was. Even today she stands as a role model for the First Ladies to follow in her place.

Cheers,
Fiona

World War Two Published 11 May 2021 She is much more than the wife of President Franklin D.
