I placed the &#8220;tails&#8221; on the end pieces because they look better when the box is inside the opening. HOWEVER- if this were a drawer with a pull on the front, such as in a cabinet or other piece of furniture, the tails would go on the SIDE pieces, not the front and back pieces. This is because a drawer with a pull on the front puts all the opening\/closing stress on that front panel. The drawer is stronger with the pins on the front and tails on the sides.
