Sometimes, to spare your foe is the honourable thing to do. A dramatic example comes in the shape of the American Charlie Brown and German Franz Stigler. Brown was flying his heavily damaged B17 &#8220;Flying Fortress&#8221; bomber home after a demanding bombing run on Bremen when Franz Stigler in his fighter plane caught sight of its tail.
