{"id":44882,"date":"2018-10-03T01:00:19","date_gmt":"2018-10-03T05:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=44882"},"modified":"2018-09-12T13:27:51","modified_gmt":"2018-09-12T17:27:51","slug":"qotd-the-state-of-american-journalism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2018\/10\/03\/qotd-the-state-of-american-journalism\/","title":{"rendered":"QotD: The state of American journalism"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Back in the day, reporters (they didn&#8217;t insist on being called &#8220;journalists&#8221; back then) were told that the way to frame their stories was to answer a series of questions which boiled down to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>who<\/li>\n<li>what<\/li>\n<li>when<\/li>\n<li>where<\/li>\n<li>why<\/li>\n<li>how<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The emphasis was on actual facts and objectivity. But now, with &#8220;advocacy journalism&#8221; having completely taken over the J-schools and pretty much every newsroom, the emphasis is on changing the world rather than reporting a story fairly and accurately. Especially now, when no less a paper than the <em>New York Times<\/em> announced before the election that Trump is so bad that objectivity should be thrown out.
