And through this, it does something pernicious to the women it claims to advocate for: Feminism has become a movement for female disempowerment, or what I call \u201cencouraged helplessness\u201d (from psychologist Martin Seligman\u2019s \u201clearned helplessness\u201d\u2014the feeling that there\u2019s nothing you can do to escape your fate).<\/p>\n<p>In fact, feminism, bizarrely, has morphed into paternalism \u2014 instructing women that they are fragile, passive, powerless victims who need authority figures to advocate for them.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a movement I want no part of. Or, as I like to put it \u2014 because I\u2019m neither a feminist nor much of a lady: Count me the fuck out.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a woman, I encourage you to join me \u2014 count yourself the fuck out of what feminism has become.<\/p>\n<p>This doesn\u2019t require you to be fearless. You just need to shove your fears aside and do what needs to be done \u2014 say, getting up on your hind legs and telling some co-worker, \u201cStop saying that thing to me\u201d or \u201c\u2026treating me this way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, if they persist after you\u2019ve told them to stop a few times, that\u2019s harassment and you can seek support to get them to stop.
