{"id":36989,"date":"2018-11-26T01:00:14","date_gmt":"2018-11-26T06:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=36989"},"modified":"2018-11-06T08:48:31","modified_gmt":"2018-11-06T13:48:31","slug":"qotd-the-hitchhikers-guide-to-the-galaxy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2018\/11\/26\/qotd-the-hitchhikers-guide-to-the-galaxy\/","title":{"rendered":"QotD: <em>The Hitchhiker&#8217;s Guide to the Galaxy<\/em>"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>&#8230; the story of a book, a book called <em>The Hitchhiker&#8217;s Guide to the Galaxy<\/em> &mdash; not an Earth book, never published on Earth, and until the terrible catastrophe occurred, never seen or even heard of by any Earthman.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, a wholly remarkable book.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, it was probably the most remarkable book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor &mdash; of which no Earthman had ever heard either.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is it a wholly remarkable book, it is also a highly successful one &mdash; more popular than the <em>Celestial Home Care Omnibus<\/em>, better selling than <em>Fifty-three More Things to Do in Zero Gravity<\/em>, and more controversial than Oolon Colluphid&#8217;s trilogy of philosophical blockbusters, <em>Where God Went Wrong<\/em>, <em>Some More of God&#8217;s Greatest Mistakes<\/em> and <em>Who Is This God Person Anyway?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In many of the more relaxed civilizations on the Outer Eastern Rim of the Galaxy, the <em>Hitchhiker&#8217;s Guide<\/em> has already supplanted the great <em>Encyclopedia Galactica<\/em> as the standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom, for though it has many omissions and contains much that is apocryphal, or at least wildly inaccurate, it scores over the older, more pedestrian work in two important respects.<\/p>\n<p>First, it is slightly cheaper; and second, it has the words <strong>DON&#8217;T PANIC<\/strong> inscribed in large friendly letters on its cover.<\/p>\n<p>Douglas Adams, <em>The Hitchhiker&#8217;s Guide to the Galaxy<\/em>, 1979.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230; the story of a book, a book called The Hitchhiker&#8217;s Guide to the Galaxy &mdash; not an Earth book, never published on Earth, and until the terrible catastrophe occurred, never seen or even heard of by any Earthman.
