{"id":33163,"date":"2015-10-13T04:00:37","date_gmt":"2015-10-13T08:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=33163"},"modified":"2015-10-12T14:31:43","modified_gmt":"2015-10-12T18:31:43","slug":"britains-national-health-service-runs-up-a-deficit-of-almost-1-billion-in-just-three-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2015\/10\/13\/britains-national-health-service-runs-up-a-deficit-of-almost-1-billion-in-just-three-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Britain&#8217;s National Health Service runs up a &#8220;deficit of almost \u00a31 billion in just three months&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/nhs\/11921381\/NHS-faces-biggest-financial-crisis-in-a-generation.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Telegraph<\/em><\/a> a report on the dire financial straits of Britain&#8217;s NHS:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>NHS trusts in England have racked up a deficit approaching \u00a31 billion in the first three months of the financial year &#8211; the worst financial position &#8220;in a generation,&#8221; regulators have said.<\/p>\n<p>The figure is more than the \u00a3820 million overspend for the entire previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Experts warned of a looming winter crisis.<\/p>\n<p>They said the \u201cstaggering\u201d figures would result in widespread cutbacks to services, with lengthening waiting times and increased rationing of care.<\/p>\n<p>The statistics for April to June show an overall deficit of \u00a3930m across England\u2019s 241 NHS hospital trusts, with three in four trusts in the red. <\/p>\n<p>The statistics show NHS Foundation Trusts had a deficit of \u00a3445 million.
