Men who are nice to women are &#8220;insidious&#8221; and &#8220;treacherous&#8221; sexists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/article\/415256\/study-being-nice-women-sign-sexism-katherine-timpf\" target=\"_blank\">Katherine Timpf<\/a> has the shocking details of evil, sexist males who attempt to ingratiate themselves to women by <em>being nice to them<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If you\u2019re a man who smiles at women and makes an effort to be kind to them, you\u2019re probably an \u201cinsidious\u201d and \u201ctreacherous\u201d sexist, according to a study conducted by researchers from Northeastern University in Boston. <\/p>\n<p>Seriously. <\/p>\n<p>After observing 27 people playing Trivial Pursuit, the researchers determined that these kind of behaviors \u2014 previously known as \u201cchivalry\u201d \u2014 were actually signs of what\u2019s called \u201cbenevolent sexism.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In other words: Men who think that women deserve to be treated well often also think that women should be treated <em>particularly<\/em> well <em>because<\/em> they\u2019re <em>women<\/em>. This, they explain, perpetuates gender inequality. Offering your jacket to a shivering women isn\u2019t <em>helping<\/em> her \u2014 it\u2019s <em>hurting<\/em> her by perpetuating the patriarchal idea that a woman is more likely to be cold than you are just because she\u2019s a woman. <\/p>\n<p>Other warning signs of \u201cbenevolent sexism\u201d include being friendly and chatty to women \u2014 which head researcher Jin Goh said is in some ways worse than being mean and\/or straight up ignoring them: \u201cSexism can appear very friendly and very welcoming, so in the paper we said that sexism can act like a wolf in sheep\u2019s clothing,\u201d Goh said, according to an article in the <em>Washington Post<\/em>. \u201cWe add that sexism can consciously or unconsciously cloak itself in friendliness, so in a way it\u2019s more insidious and treacherous than hostile sexism.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, the instant you detect a male being &#8220;nice&#8221; to you is the perfect time to denounce him for his hateful, patronizing sexist impulses.
