{"id":3030,"date":"2010-03-09T09:40:33","date_gmt":"2010-03-09T13:40:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=3030"},"modified":"2010-03-09T10:45:42","modified_gmt":"2010-03-09T14:45:42","slug":"were-pulling-soft-drinks-from-schools-but-well-now-charge-for-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2010\/03\/09\/were-pulling-soft-drinks-from-schools-but-well-now-charge-for-water\/","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;re pulling soft drinks from schools, but we&#8217;ll now charge for water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.680news.com\/news\/local\/article\/33671--parents-upset-at-parkdale-school-s-plan-to-sell-filtered-water-to-young-children\" target=\"_blank\">680 News<\/a> had this delightful little news item in the round-up this morning:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Some parents are questioning a plan by the Toronto District School Board to put a vending machine in a Parkdale elementary school that sells water refills and flavoured water.<\/p>\n<p>The vending machine is scheduled to be installed at Fern Avenue Public School, near Queen Street and Roncesvalles Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>The machine will charge students 50-cents for filtered water and $1 for flavoured water.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The pipes at the school apparently need to be replaced, which has some parents concerned that this little &#8220;convenience&#8221; will come to replace the water fountains altogether. If that happened, the 50-cents-per-drink machine would be a nice little earner for the school board.<\/p>\n<p>After this became news, the board decided to delay the installation until after a meeting to consult with concerned parents.
