I don\u2019t want to get too heavily into this particular example, because I understand <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Post-Zionism\" target=\"_blank\">post-Zionism is complex<\/a> and every time I write something about Israel I get Israeli commenters saying I\u2019ve gotten it wrong and other Israeli commenters saying no <em>they\u2019ve<\/em> gotten it wrong and still other Israeli commenters saying we\u2019ve <em>all<\/em> got it wrong. What was that saying about \u201ctwo Jews, three opinions\u201d again?<\/p>\n<p>But what bothers me about post-Zionism is that it seems to carry this kind of smug \u201cOh, you guys are <em>still<\/em> Zionist? Don\u2019t you know Zionism is, like, totally five years ago? <em>Nowadays<\/em> all the cool people have moved on to more exciting things,\u201d which I don\u2019t think really adds to the argument. Zionism versus anti-Zionism suggests a picture of two sides with two different opinions \u2013 which seems to match the reality pretty well. Zionism versus post-Zionism suggests one side just hasn\u2019t gotten the message yet.<\/p>\n<p>I feel the same way about post-rationalism. Yes, maybe you\u2019ve seen through rationalism in some profound way and transcended it. Or maybe you just don\u2019t get it. This is exactly the point under debate, and naming yourselves \u201cpost-rationalists\u201d seems like an attempt to short-circuit it, not to mention leaving everyone else confused. And maybe you could give yourself a name that actually reflected your beliefs (\u201cKind Of New-Age-y People Who Are Better At Math Than Usual For That Demographic And Will Angrily Deny Being New-Age-y If Asked Directly\u201d?) and we wouldn\u2019t have to have a new \u201cbut what is post-rationalism?!?!\u201d conversation every month.<\/p>\n<p>Post-modernism can stay, though.
