But now, apparently, women often can\u2019t speak even <em>when<\/em> they\u2019re spoken to because they\u2019ve been conditioned to believe they shouldn\u2019t unless a man has spoken first.<\/p>\n<p>At least that\u2019s the opinion of the Canadian <a href=\"http:\/\/campusreform.org\/?ID=6208\" target=\"_blank\">professors<\/a> who want to make it official school policy that you have to call on female students first in class:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do think, in general, there are a lot of studies that indicate women, girls are socialized not to speak first. &#8230; And so to make a conscious rule, a deliberate rule that is explicit, that \u2018no, men are not allowed to speak first,\u2019 is certainly a strong way of addressing that issue,\u201d said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dal.ca\/faculty\/arts\/school-of-performing-arts\/faculty-staff\/our-faculty\/musicology\/jacqueline-warwick.html\" target=\"_blank\">Jacqueline Warwick<\/a>, a professor of musicology and former coordinator of the Gender and Women\u2019s Studies Programs at Dalhousie University.<\/p>\n<p>We have to say, okay, quiet down men! Let the little ladies have a turn before you start talking in your big scary man-voices!
