{"id":2902,"date":"2010-02-26T09:29:29","date_gmt":"2010-02-26T13:29:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=2902"},"modified":"2010-02-26T13:38:02","modified_gmt":"2010-02-26T17:38:02","slug":"ioc-to-investigate-scandal-in-womens-hockey-celebration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2010\/02\/26\/ioc-to-investigate-scandal-in-womens-hockey-celebration\/","title":{"rendered":"IOC to investigate scandal in women&#8217;s hockey: celebration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, I&#8217;m sure the IOC will quickly move to quash the scandalous behaviour of those hooligans on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/olympics\/hockey\/story\/2010\/02\/26\/sp-hockey-women-drinking.html\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian women&#8217;s hockey team<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The International Olympic Committee will investigate the behaviour of the Canadian women&#8217;s hockey players who celebrated their gold medal at the Vancouver Games by drinking alcohol on the ice.<\/p>\n<p>Several Canadian players returned to the ice surface at Canada Hockey Place roughly 30 minutes after their 2-0 win over the U.S. on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>The players drank cans of beer and bottles of champagne, and smoked cigars with their gold medals draped around their necks.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Imagine that! <em>Celebrating<\/em> after winning a gold medal against their arch-rivals. And <em>drinking alcohol<\/em>, too. And to compound the outrage, they did it <em>on the ice<\/em>!!!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure the IOC will do the sensible thing and strip them of their medals. It&#8217;s the only logical thing to do, after all. And <em>totally<\/em> in proportion to the heinousness of their crime.<\/p>\n<p>Even worse, they contributed to the delinquency of a minor:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Among those drinking were Marie-Philip Poulin of Quebec City, the youngest player on Team Canada and its fourth-line centre, who scored twice in the first period. The 18-year-old Poulin turns 19 next month, but right now she would be under the legal drinking age in B.C.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Because nobody in the entire history of the province of British Columbia has ever had the temptation to have a drink before the legal age. Is it possible for the Canadians to win properly?<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s actions were no worse than those of gold-medal winner Jon Montgomery, who cruised through Whistler drinking a pitcher of beer after his skeleton run, or American snowboarder Scotty Lago, who was photographed grinning as a woman bit his bronze medal in front of his, um, crotch.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, of course the cases aren&#8217;t comparable: women are (still) held to a different standard of behaviour than the men. What&#8217;s a mere bit of boyish fun for the men is shameful and unforgiveable in a woman.
