That November, Navy officials <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/war-is-boring\/its-not-just-navy-admirals-being-naughty-the-pentagons-got-a-major-behavior-problem-cb99cf3556da\" target=\"_blank\">launched an investigation<\/a> into misconduct involving top officers and a Malaysian contractor named Fat Leonard.<\/p>\n<p>The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/war-is-boring\/take-a-photo-tour-of-americas-unfinished-prison-in-afghanistan-78a2155ae8dd\" target=\"_blank\">has released<\/a> report after report <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/war-is-boring\/how-the-pentagon-quietly-turned-half-a-billion-dollars-into-32-000-78410958269e\" target=\"_blank\">detailing corruption and waste<\/a> by contractors and military officials.<\/p>\n<p>Individually, the cases are all bad news. The <em>good<\/em> news is that authorities often catch and punish government cheats, thieves and frauds. Penalties for ripping off the American taxpayer range from huge fines to hard time in prison.<\/p>\n<p>And when the trial ends and punishment begins, many military ethics cases wind up in the Pentagon\u2019s <em>Encyclopedia of Ethical Failure<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s right, the military <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dod.mil\/dodgc\/defense_ethics\/dod_oge\/eef_complete.doc\" target=\"_blank\">maintains a database<\/a> of the federal government\u2019s worst ethics violators. Unlike many government documents, the encyclopedia is clear, easy to read \u2026 and actually quite funny.
