{"id":27559,"date":"2014-08-27T08:24:50","date_gmt":"2014-08-27T13:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=27559"},"modified":"2014-08-27T08:34:24","modified_gmt":"2014-08-27T13:34:24","slug":"35-years-later-kate-bush-returns-to-live-performances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2014\/08\/27\/35-years-later-kate-bush-returns-to-live-performances\/","title":{"rendered":"35 years later, Kate Bush returns to live performances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/entertainment-arts-28939245\" target=\"_blank\"><em>BBC News<\/em><\/a> reports on the first live performance by Kate Bush since 1979:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Kate Bush has made her stage comeback to an ecstatic response from fans at her first live concert for 35 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bush received a standing ovation as she closed the show with Cloudbusting, from her 1985 hit album <em>The Hounds of Love<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The 56-year-old British star was appearing at London&#8217;s Hammersmith Apollo &mdash; the scene of her last live show in 1979.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday&#8217;s three-hour set kicked off a run of 22 shows, titled Before the Dawn, which sold out in minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, she thanked fans for their &#8220;warm and positive response&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Backed by seven musicians, Bush opened the show with Lily, from the 1993 album <em>Red Shoes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>There was a huge roar from the crowd as Bush appeared on stage &mdash; barefoot and dressed in black &mdash; leading her five backing singers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s so good to be here &mdash; thank you so much,&#8221; she told the cheering crowd.<\/p>\n<p>She later introduced one of the backing chorus as her teenage son Bertie who, the star said, had given her the &#8220;courage&#8221; to return to the stage.<\/p>\n<p>The first half of the show included the 1985 single Running Up That Hill and, from the same <em>Hounds of Love<\/em> album, the song suite The Ninth Wave &mdash; which combined video, theatre and dance to tell the story of a woman lost at sea.<\/p>\n<p>After an interval, the second act was dominated by songs from Bush&#8217;s 2005 album <em>Aerial<\/em>. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Kate-Bush-BBC-ad.jpg\" alt=\"Kate Bush BBC ad\" width=\"853\" height=\"426\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Kate-Bush-BBC-ad.jpg 853w, https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Kate-Bush-BBC-ad-150x74.jpg 150w, https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Kate-Bush-BBC-ad-480x239.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 853px) 100vw, 853px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BBC News reports on the first live performance by Kate Bush since 1979: Kate Bush has made her stage comeback to an ecstatic response from fans at her first live concert for 35 years.
