{"id":27365,"date":"2014-08-15T15:02:18","date_gmt":"2014-08-15T20:02:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=27365"},"modified":"2014-08-15T15:02:18","modified_gmt":"2014-08-15T20:02:18","slug":"what-if-its-all-just-an-over-extended-hoax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2014\/08\/15\/what-if-its-all-just-an-over-extended-hoax\/","title":{"rendered":"What if it&#8217;s all just an over-extended hoax?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2014\/08\/15\/can-feminists-do-anything-on-their-own\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilhelm<\/a> wonders if they&#8217;re just going to drop the effort and admit it&#8217;s all just a huge joke:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sometimes I wonder if modern feminists are really a bunch of fun-loving, hyper-aware pranksters, conspiring to hoist an elaborate hoax upon the world. \u201cOh, Amanda, be real,\u201d someone might type in a secret feminist chat room, chortling over a Diet Coke. \u201cIsn\u2019t this piece <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/2014\/03\/14\/the-real-debate-isnt-about-life-but-about-what-we-expect-of-women\/\" target=\"_blank\">calling babies \u2018time-sucking monsters\u2019 that should die so you can freely watch \u201cTrue Detective\u201d<\/a> a little over the top?\u201d Another chat participant, reviewing a <a href=\"http:\/\/jessicavalenti.com\/post\/84936190773\/i-think-abortion-should-be-legal-without-any\" target=\"_blank\">call for legalized abortion until birth<\/a>, would type swiftly and frantically: \u201cJessica, come on, seriously? Don\u2019t publish this \u2014 they\u2019ll finally figure out that it\u2019s all a joke!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alas, I don\u2019t think they\u2019re messing with us \u2014 even when they claim they are. Each week, it seems, at least one fresh journalistic absurdity surfaces from our feminist friends, dutifully reminding everyone how unbearable it is to be a woman in the twenty-first century. This week\u2019s entry comes from Medium\u2019s Jess Zimmerman, who, according to her <em>Twitter<\/em> bio, loves to hate men \u2026 but in a fun way, of course. In her latest article, entitled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-archipelago\/men-get-on-board-with-misandry-4a3bc6c08e16\" target=\"_blank\">Men, Get On Board With Misandry<\/a>,\u201d Zimmerman argues that men really need to join her on the man-hating bandwagon, and STAT.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>This is all tongue-in-cheek fun, of course, sort of \u2014 until you realize that if a bunch of men started, say, \u201cThe Misogynist Book Club,\u201d the esteemed members of the \u201cMisandrist Book Club\u201d would fly through the roof, screeching like Grendel\u2019s mother strapped to a jet pack fueled with cocaine. \u201cOur misandry,\u201d feminist Nicole Cliffe told <em>Slate<\/em>, \u201clike the wings of the butterfly, is too beautiful to pull apart in order to see its workings.\u201d Well, it\u2019s something, certainly.
