{"id":25530,"date":"2014-05-06T09:58:22","date_gmt":"2014-05-06T14:58:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=25530"},"modified":"2014-05-06T09:58:22","modified_gmt":"2014-05-06T14:58:22","slug":"reset-the-net-on-june-5th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2014\/05\/06\/reset-the-net-on-june-5th\/","title":{"rendered":"Reset the Net on June 5th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At <em>Wired<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/2014\/05\/reset-the-net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kim Zetter<\/a> talks about an initiative to reclaim (some measure of) privacy on the internet:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"853\" height=\"480\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qKk8MHFLNNE\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A coalition of nearly two-dozen tech companies and civil liberties groups is launching a new fight against mass internet surveillance, hoping to battle the NSA in much the same way online campaigners pushed back on bad piracy legislation in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The new coalition, organized by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fightforthefuture.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fight for the Future<\/a>, is planning a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.resetthenet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reset the Net<\/a> day of action on June 5, the anniversary of the date the first Edward Snowden story broke detailing the government\u2019s PRISM program, based on documents leaked by the former NSA contractor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment spies have a weakness: they can hack anybody, but they can\u2019t hack everybody,\u201d the organizers behind the Reset the Net movement say in their video (above). \u201cFolks like the NSA depend on collecting insecure data from tapped fiber.
