Here&#8217;s the federal candidate for the Alberta riding of Fort McMurray-Athabasca:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/LPC-poster-for-Fort-McMurray-Athabasca.jpg\" alt=\"LPC poster for Fort McMurray-Athabasca\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24551\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/LPC-poster-for-Fort-McMurray-Athabasca.jpg 650w, https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/LPC-poster-for-Fort-McMurray-Athabasca-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/LPC-poster-for-Fort-McMurray-Athabasca-480x319.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fortmcmurraytoday.com\/2014\/03\/04\/first-libertarian-candidate-to-run-in-mcmurray\" target=\"_blank\">Vincent McDermott<\/a> reports for <em>Fort McMurray Today<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Libertarian party candidate Tim Moen wants gay married couples to have the right to protect their personal marijuana plants with guns.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s one of the many slogans Moen, a captain with the Fort McMurray Fire Department and freelance videographer, is posting online as a federal byelection in the region approaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo me, that meme is the message of classical liberalism and the philosophy of liberty,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople should be allowed to marry whoever they want, put what they want into their bodies as long as no one is hurt, and protect themselves and their property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moen is the first federal Libertarian candidate to run in the Fort McMurray-Athabasca riding.<\/p>\n<p>The party advocates a platform of no government interference in Canada\u2019s internal social and economic affairs, on the grounds that doing so violates personal liberties and freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>The Libertarian Party of Canada was formed in Toronto in 1973, but has not elected a single member to the House of Commons, nor has it ever gained higher than 0.25% of the popular vote.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Late last week, the RCMP classified the CZ 858 and the Swiss Arms Classic Green rifle as \u201cprohibited,\u201d meaning gun owners without the proper licensing will now have to surrender the two firearms to local police without compensation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow these people are criminals just because of the property they own,\u201d says Moen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGun control is not about protection, so much as it is about control. We\u2019ve seen what happens in countries that allow these liberties to be eroded and it\u2019s not pretty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It also means the party is firmly supportive of LGBTQ rights, open immigration, the legalization of drugs and prostitution \u2014 so long as it\u2019s between consenting adults. It also views pollution as a violation of property rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe memes show we care about issues the left likes and issues associated with the right. It doesn\u2019t have to be one or the other,\u201d says Moen. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to stay in one group. It\u2019s not about left versus right.
