{"id":23471,"date":"2013-12-28T10:12:26","date_gmt":"2013-12-28T15:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=23471"},"modified":"2013-12-28T10:12:26","modified_gmt":"2013-12-28T15:12:26","slug":"facebook-ages-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2013\/12\/28\/facebook-ages-out\/","title":{"rendered":"<em>Facebook<\/em> ages out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the <em>Guardian<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2013\/dec\/27\/facebook-dead-and-buried-to-teens-research-finds\" target=\"_blank\">Jemima Kiss<\/a> explains why European teens are finding other social networking tools to be more attractive than <em>Facebook<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Facebook<\/em> is &#8216;dead and buried&#8217; to older teenagers, an extensive European study has found, as the key age group moves on to <em>Twitter<\/em>, <em>Instagram<\/em>, <em>WhatsApp<\/em> and <em>Snapchat<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Researching the <em>Facebook<\/em> use of 16-18 year olds in eight EU countries, the Global Social Media Impact Study found that as parents and older users saturate <em>Facebook<\/em>, its younger users are shifting to alternative platforms.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Facebook<\/em> is not just on the slide &mdash; it is basically dead and buried,&#8221; wrote Daniel Miller, lead anthropologist on the research team, who is professor of material culture of University College London.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mostly they feel embarrassed to even be associated with it.
