{"id":21876,"date":"2013-08-29T08:25:51","date_gmt":"2013-08-29T13:25:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=21876"},"modified":"2013-08-29T08:25:51","modified_gmt":"2013-08-29T13:25:51","slug":"the-new-swiss-model-of-prostitution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2013\/08\/29\/the-new-swiss-model-of-prostitution\/","title":{"rendered":"The new Swiss model of prostitution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think it&#8217;s impossible to stamp out prostitution, so making it legal and (hopefully) safer for the sex workers is a good idea. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/switzerlands-new-drive-in-brothel-goes-live-2013-8\" target=\"_blank\">Switzerland<\/a> seems to agree, although they&#8217;re going about it in an odd way:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Zurich&#8217;s new drive-in brothels opened earlier this week and they already raised a few eyebrows.<\/p>\n<p>Across Europe there does seem to be a growing trend for sex drive-ins, however, with a widespread belief that it gets prostitution off the streets and into a safer environment, with similar schemes in Germany, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most unusual aspects of the Zurich brothel \u2014 which are being referred to as &#8220;sex boxes&#8221; in Swiss media \u2014 are the signs being used at the facility, which cater both to Switzerland&#8217;s multilingual society (four official languages) and perhaps an odd sense of humor.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rather than posting verbose signs in all four official languages (French, German, Italian, and Romansh), they&#8217;re using rather amusing &#8220;international&#8221; pictograms:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We&#8217;ve done our best to translate (going right to left then working down):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Swiss-drive-in-brothel-signs-444x600.jpg\" alt=\"Swiss drive-in brothel signs\" width=\"444\" height=\"600\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21877\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Swiss-drive-in-brothel-signs-444x600.jpg 444w, https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Swiss-drive-in-brothel-signs-111x150.jpg 111w, https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Swiss-drive-in-brothel-signs-758x1024.jpg 758w, https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Swiss-drive-in-brothel-signs.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 444px) 100vw, 444px\" \/>No one under the age of eighteen.<\/li>\n<li>Only cars can use the facility \u2014 no motorbikes, people on foot, or bicycles.<\/li>\n<li>Just one client at a time.<\/li>\n<li>Use the facilities provided, not the outdoor space.<\/li>\n<li>Again, do not use the outdoor space.<\/li>\n<li>Do not go off facility grounds<\/li>\n<li>Throw away your trash.<\/li>\n<li>No photography, filming, or recording (or singing, perhaps).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think it&#8217;s impossible to stamp out prostitution, so making it legal and (hopefully) safer for the sex workers is a good idea.
