{"id":20350,"date":"2013-05-20T09:44:41","date_gmt":"2013-05-20T14:44:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=20350"},"modified":"2013-05-20T09:44:41","modified_gmt":"2013-05-20T14:44:41","slug":"counterfeit-100-bills-now-in-circulation-despite-all-the-anti-counterfeiting-features","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2013\/05\/20\/counterfeit-100-bills-now-in-circulation-despite-all-the-anti-counterfeiting-features\/","title":{"rendered":"Counterfeit $100 bills now in circulation, despite all the anti-counterfeiting features"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new polymer bills were touted as having very hard to counterfeit features, and people apparently believed what they were told &mdash; because they haven&#8217;t been bothering to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalpost.com\/dispatch\/news\/the-canadian-press\/130516\/mounties-say-crooks-passing-fake-polymer-bank-notes-british-\" target=\"_blank\">check the new bills<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Less than two years ago, the head of the RCMP said Canada&#8217;s new polymer bank notes would go a long way in deterring the threat of counterfeiting.<\/p>\n<p>Just last month, the Bank of Canada announced the notes&#8217; sophisticated transparency and holography made them &#8220;the most secure bank note series ever issued&#8221; by the institution.<\/p>\n<p>Too bad somebody forgot to tell criminals in British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>Mounties and municipal police in Metro Vancouver are warning the public that several of the fake $100 bills have been detected in the region over the past few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The fanfare about the security features on the bills, may be part of the problem, said RCMP Sgt.
