At the time, Jon (my former virtual landlord) strongly suggested I park my Toyota Tacoma in the garage just to avoid being targeted by random police &#8220;marksmen&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2013\/feb\/08\/local\/la-me-torrance-shooting-20130209\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Pickup-shooting-by-LAPD.jpg\" alt=\"Pickup shooting by LAPD\" width=\"610\" height=\"458\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18970\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Pickup-shooting-by-LAPD.jpg 610w, https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Pickup-shooting-by-LAPD-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Pickup-shooting-by-LAPD-480x360.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the follow-up that only makes the story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/stories\/2013\/03\/12\/city-promises-new-truck-to-women-shot-during-cop-killer-manhunt-but-it-comes-with-a-tax-surprise\/#\" target=\"_blank\">that much more ridiculous<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cLAPD and Galpin Ford wanted [the women] to pose for a photo opportunity and pay income tax on the truck,\u201d the NBC report reads, citing Jonas. \u201cThe women no longer want the truck after they were told they needed to fill out a 1099 form for the donation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For those of you who don\u2019t know that a 1099 form is, it\u2019s for tax form for \u201cmiscellaneous income.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou tried to murder the woman, now you\u2019re telling her she can\u2019t have a four-wheel drive, you\u2019re telling her she can\u2019t sell it and you\u2019ve got to be taxed on it?\u201d Jonas said. \u201cHow would anyone react to that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJonas plans on filing a government claim, which is a precursor to any lawsuit filed against a government agency. He said he felt the truck was being touted as a \u2018reward or prize\u2019 instead of a sincere gesture by the LAPD,\u201d NBC 4 News notes:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I can&#8217;t improve on the comment Jon sent along with this link: &#8220;At this rate, I am surprised that the LAPD has not tried to bill the women for the 100+ rounds of ammunition.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember this gem of a story from last month?
