{"id":15520,"date":"2012-06-16T10:56:41","date_gmt":"2012-06-16T15:56:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=15520"},"modified":"2012-06-16T10:56:41","modified_gmt":"2012-06-16T15:56:41","slug":"obamas-really-bad-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2012\/06\/16\/obamas-really-bad-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama&#8217;s really bad week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/freebeacon.com\/obamas-pity-party\/\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew Continetti<\/a> on President Obama&#8217;s really awful week:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I can\u2019t be the only person in America who, at about minute 35 in President Obama\u2019s almost hour-long \u201cframing\u201d speech in Cleveland Thursday, wanted to tell the president, as the Dude famously screams at Walter Sobchak in <em>The Big Lebowski<\/em>, \u201cYou\u2019re living in the past!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Obama\u2019s overly long, repetitive, and by turns self-pitying and self-congratulatory address was so soaked through with nostalgia that MSNBC should have broadcast it in sepia tones. The speech &mdash; which even the liberal Obama biographer Jonathan Alter called one of the president\u2019s \u201cleast successful\u201d political communications &mdash; revealed an incumbent desperately trying to replay the 2008 election. But no oratory will make up for a flawed record and a vague, fissiparous, and unappealing agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The president himself forced this abrupt re-launch of his reelection campaign. After a bad week that began with terrible job numbers, proceeded to Scott Walker\u2019s victory in the Wisconsin recall, and culminated in awful fundraising news, Obama tried to recover last Friday by addressing the press on the state of the economy. Except things went horribly wrong.
