{"id":10368,"date":"2011-07-22T08:58:16","date_gmt":"2011-07-22T12:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=10368"},"modified":"2011-07-22T08:59:18","modified_gmt":"2011-07-22T12:59:18","slug":"%e2%80%9ci-never-ever-ever-want-to-get-involved-in-anything-this-complicated-again%e2%80%9d","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2011\/07\/22\/%e2%80%9ci-never-ever-ever-want-to-get-involved-in-anything-this-complicated-again%e2%80%9d\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cI never, ever, ever want to get involved in anything this complicated again\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just in case you don&#8217;t already have multiple versions of the <em>Lord of the Rings<\/em> movies, there&#8217;s now the extended Blu-ray version, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reghardware.com\/2011\/07\/22\/review_the_lord_of_the_rings_trilogy_extended_edition_blu_ray_box_set\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve May<\/a> thinks it&#8217;s worth getting:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The set is beautifully packaged. Three fat Blu-ray cases sit within a substantial, faux gold-leaf book. Within are elongated versions of each movie. Previously available as DVD special editions, these plump out the trilogy with cutting-room floor detritus. In <em>Fellowship<\/em> multiple small scene edits and additions increase its running length by around 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Two Towers<\/em> is even more substantially altered. With more than 40 minutes of additional footage cut into proceedings, plus some reframing and tweaks, it\u2019s a significantly different beast from the original theatrical release. There\u2019s also a smidgeon more action inserted into the Helm\u2019s Deep battle, which contrary to popular opinion I believe can only be a good thing.<\/p>\n<p><em>Return of the King<\/em> tops <em>Towers<\/em> with nigh-on 50 minutes of extra material. Once again the movie has been substantially re-cut to accommodate the multiple changes and insertions. This engorged version would never play theatrically because of its length, but on disc, where you can watch and take a break at will, it\u2019s a marvellous indulgence. For those that want to spend as much time in Middle Earth as possible, these extended versions are a gift.
