In George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four<\/em>, the totalitarian government of Britain (“Airstrip One”) organized itself into all-powerful ministries whose names were deliberate lies: “The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy: they are deliberate exercises in doublethink.”<\/p>\n

The Canadian government seems to have mistaken Orwell’s warning as a how-to guide<\/a>:<\/p>\n

This is crazy<\/p>\n

Canadian ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada<\/p>\n

wrote a memo to Minister Joly<\/p>\n

outlining a plan to make themselves the literal Ministry of Truth, and then use government lawyers to sue people.<\/p>\n

Not parody: Meet our new Minister of Misinformation. <\/p>\n

She will be the in charge of state surveillance & the punishment of speech.<\/p>\n

We are becoming the UK:<\/p>\n

The government is the accuser.<\/p>\n

The government is the judge.<\/p>\n

The government is the executor.<\/p>\n

The government decides what speech is allowed. <\/p>\n

The Liberals purposely redacted what tools they plan to use.<\/p>\n

And there will be no threshold for what triggers legal action.<\/p>\n

Nor will there be independent oversight of the accuracy of what THEY call misinformation. <\/p>\n

They want to use your tax dollars, so they can sue you. <\/p>\n

Using government lawyers, for what you post online. <\/p>\n
