{"id":10164,"date":"2011-07-06T12:21:07","date_gmt":"2011-07-06T16:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/?p=10164"},"modified":"2011-07-06T12:21:07","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T16:21:07","slug":"perhaps-they-should-call-themselves-the-canadian-fundraising-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quotulatiousness.ca\/blog\/2011\/07\/06\/perhaps-they-should-call-themselves-the-canadian-fundraising-society\/","title":{"rendered":"Perhaps they should call themselves the Canadian Fundraising Society?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As it appears that they only have a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/story\/2011\/07\/04\/cancer-society-funding.html#.ThRP6eKGKbg.twitter\" target=\"_blank\">sideline in cancer research<\/a> these days:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>An Ontario cancer researcher is concerned that the Canadian Cancer Society has proportionally shifted funding away from research and is spending more of its dollars on fundraising and administration costs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most scientists don\u2019t realize that the budget has been going up and up, and donations have been growing, but the budget for research has been shrinking,&#8221; said Brian Lichty, a researcher at McMaster University who is looking into treating cancer with viruses that kill tumours. &#8220;So they are surprised and disappointed when they find out that this is the case, and the trend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>CBC&#8217;s <em>Marketplace<\/em> analyzed the Canadian Cancer Society\u2019s financial reports dating back a dozen years.
