  1. Guys, guys, GUYS! Did it escape your notice, in discussing why Canada did not join the conferation, that the place was full of natives AND French people who had been AT WAR with the Anglo-Americans in living memory. Better to stick with far-away London than the enemy cities of New York, Philadelphia and Boston.

  2. Plus the first wave of the United Empire Loyalist refugees (‘though a lot fewer of them in this time period than legend suggests … more of them came later for the land grants than to flee persecution by Patriots).
