This week in Guild Wars 2 news

I’ve been accumulating news snippets about the as-yet-to-be-formally-scheduled release of Guild Wars 2 for an email newsletter I send out to my friends and acquaintances in the Guild Wars community. Another slow week for GW2 news. I’m hoping that this means that ArenaNet has been busy with the closed alpha and that we’re therefore closer to the beta.

Part 1: Discussion of previous news

  • If you listen to podcasts, you might want to subscribe to the Guildcast weekly podcast
  • Reminder: the official Guild Wars 2 wiki is still growing, so it’s worth checking it out now and again for new information.
  • The Guild Counsel: Guild horror stories. “Ah, fall! Crisp cool air, gorgeous foliage, and enough horror and frights to leave you looking like someone who’s just seen Samara from The Ring. Halloween is chock full of scares and horror stories, and guilds are no different. Whether you’ve led a guild or been part of one, chances are you’ve witnessed your fair share of terrifying tales. In this week’s Guild Counsel, I’ll share a few of mine, and I welcome you to add yours below. So gather round the campfire, pass the marshmallows, and bundle up in that sleeping bag because it’s time to share our guild horror stories.”

Part 3: Guild Wars 2 news

  • MMORPG.comGuild Wars 2 Column: Fresh Beats in Tyria. “We were surrounded by several monsters and had no choice but to attack. I turned around and began to cast spells on a target. I knew my attacks were hurting him, as each one landed he cried out in pain. As the battle continued, I heard my allies’ weapons piercing through flesh and clanging on armor. We thought we were going to pull though, but then I heard strange cries from a dark chant off in the distance. Soon the sounds of comets where heard, and they crashed on top of us. Each thundering boom, even if it didn’t hit us, brought fear to our hearts and made us act irrationally. The battle had taken a turn for the worse and the music had turned from an epic tune to a melody that expressed the mayhem I was seeing on the screen.”
  • NCsoft master account not needed for HoM link. “In a recent support forum thread, Gaile Gray (ArenaNet Support Liaison) once and for all confirmed that an NCsoft master account will not be needed for the link. Good news for all Guild Wars 1 players who are not connected to a master account, who have several Guild Wars 1 accounts connected to the same master account, or who are connected but lost the login information.”
  • GuildMag – HTML Re-release Issue 6: From the Mists. “While we’re hard at work to release our eighth issue, ‘Depths of Tyria’, the reboot of our podcast, Dynamically Spoken, and plenty more, we had the chance to bring Issue 6, ‘From the Mists’, into our HTML format so more of you can enjoy our quality articles by the community, for the community. Continue reading for the description of ’From the Mists’, as published alongside the original release.”
  • GuildWars2PvP – Team ArenaNet Interview | Part 2 – John Corpening. “GuildWars2PvP is happy to bring you part 2 of our ‘Team ArenaNet’ interview series! We’ll be talking to all five members of the team ArenaNet fielded for the Guild Wars 2 ESL Exhibition Matches and PAX Developer Tournament.”
  • GuildWars2PvP – Team ArenaNet Interview | Part 3 – Izzy Cartwright. “GuildWars2PvP brings you part 3 of our ‘Team ArenaNet’ interview series! We’ll be talking to all five members of the team ArenaNet fielded for the Guild Wars 2 ESL Exhibition Matches and PAX Developer Tournament.”
  • Wish You Were Here – ArenaNet’s Environmental Postcards. “One of the things I love most about my job is hunting for cool art in the vast digital landscape of our network. I can pull from a museum’s worth of Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 concept art for our blog, web sites, newsletters, merchandise, tradeshow material, and for press. During my travels I often stumble upon hidden treasures—little nuggets of awesomeness tucked away in remote directories.”
