Even with the Post Office on strike, deliveries must be made

Just before lunch, the UPS guy dropped off a couple of books from my latest Amazon.ca order:

That’s The Declaration of Independents: How libertarian politics can fix what’s wrong with America by Nick Gillespie and Matt Welch, and Fuzzy Nation by John Scalzi. Now I’m just waiting for Rule 34 by Charles Stross to complete the order.

  1. I am not familiar with John Scalzi. Is he an approved H Beam Piper collaborator? I have read all of H Beam Piper’s stuff… his personal history is sad but his science fiction is one of the best.

  2. Scalzi is perhaps best known for his Old Man’s War series, which I quite enjoyed reading. I loved H. Beam Piper’s works back in the day, so I’m approaching this “reboot” with caution. Scalzi is an excellent writer, but his take on the story may go in different directions than Piper might have approved.

At worst, it might be like the butchery committed by Spider Robinson on Robert Heinlein’s outline published as Variable Star. But I doubt it.

  3. With these titles, I have peered through a window into your very soul.

  4. A small, partially obscured window into a side-room, I assure you.
