Feeling optimistic about peoples’ common sense?

A few visits to this site will quickly disabuse you of that feeling.

It’s how some folks on Facebook react to stories from The Onion as if it was real news.

  1. Yes, it’s truly amazing that a few people out of the HALF A BILLION Facebook users seem to have no ability to comprehend humor. There are plenty of relatively intelligent folks who truly have no sense of humor at all. The site owners have a bit of a problem, too, since some of their posts are just from people who think the actual Onion story is in bad taste (which it certainly is, to a lot of people).

It’s reassuring to find (when you dig through the site’s archives) that the lack is bipartisan – some of the links yield very dim comments by folks on the other side of the spectrum.

  2. It’s a brilliant idea for a low-overhead humour site: even in the average person’s list of Facebook friends, there are one or two who can be depended upon to provide a regular output of non sequiturs. This site will never lack for raw material to draw upon.

However, there are only so many ways you can find variations of the same joke to be funny.
