The Southern Tier (as it is known in New York State; Pennsylvania calls it The Northern Tier) runs east-west along the border between the two states. 20 minutes out of Buffalo, #219 lifts you "up unto the hills", and then #86/#17 takes you for hours along The Allegheny (downstream to Pittsburgh) and then up The Salamanca (downstream floats you through Chesapeake Bay) Even better - There is a spot ( 41°51'18.33"N 77°52'33.56"W for the GPSers) just East of Coudersport where you can jump across The Allegheny and then return to Toronto to brag'n'blog about it!
