Now I have seen everything

Visited the local outlet mall north of Zelienople today. In one of the stores was this fascinating wine:

PennsylvaniaBurgundy

Yep. It’s a Pennsylvania “Burgundy” — made of hybrid grapes — in a “Bordeux” style (the image doesn’t quite let me determine if Bordeaux was actually misspelled, but I thought it was).

For the vast majority of you who are not wine snobs, “Burgundy” is a reserved term for wine made exclusively with the Pinot Noir grape, and grown, pressed, and vinified in the French region of Bourgogne (aka Burgundy in English). “Bordeaux” is also a reserved term for wines grown in the region around the city of Bordeaux in southwestern France, using a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and/or Malbec grapes. None of these grapes are considered “hybrid”.

I didn’t dare taste it.

  1. The Wine Police will be along to take care of that, as soon as they can stop laughing. Why don’t you take a seat, this could be a long wait.

  2. Zelienople, not a place that you hear a lot about. I am glad you got to stop there. It brings back some memories for me.
For a number of years I used to go camping at Coopers lake, for the SCA Pennsic War and often went to Zelienople for a visit. Not much to that really, but my parents would talk about some old friends of theirs who lived in Pennsylvania. I never met them and didn’t know where they lived in PA.
About ten years ago I was reviewing my fathers old 8mm movies. One was of a the family in PA and the Zelienople Santa Claus parade circa 1956. It was surprised to realize that my parents and I both had a connection to Zelienople.
By the way I am glad you stayed away from the wine. You have an amusing story about Zelienople instead of a rant (not that you rant) about how bad that wine was.

Passing by Cooper’s Lake Campground, I saw they’ve built some sort of castle structure out in the area where the field battle is probably still held. Quite eyecatching for northbound traffic on I-79.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of most of the hybrids anyway, and the description just didn’t make me want to try it.
